How to use a bridal shower word scramble

At a bridal shower, guests come from different parts of the bride's life and may never have met. A shared puzzle gives them something to work on together and an easy way to start talking.

  1. Print a sheet for each guest and set out pens and small pencils at the tables.
  2. Place guests of different circles together, such as a cousin beside a college friend.
  3. Give guests ten minutes or the length of a break between activities.
  4. Review the answers aloud, reading each word and letting the bride announce the funniest one.
  5. Hand a small prize such as a candle or a mini bottle of bubbles to the winner.

Ways to vary the game

  • Team mode. Pairs solve one sheet together, and the bride picks the best team.
  • Wedding wisdom. After the unscrambling, each guest writes one piece of advice that includes the answer word.
  • Mystery word. Choose five answers and mark the first letter of each. Put them together to spell the name of the couple's honeymoon destination.

Tips for the hostess

Insert the couple's own words and cut a few of the standard ones if you want a more personal puzzle.

Switch on the first letter hint if the guest list includes older relatives who may not enjoy word games as much.

Have a few extra copies handy for guests who spill champagne or lose their pencil.

Printing for the shower

White or blush paper with a ribbon looks pretty at each place setting. Black ink is plenty elegant, and ink saver mode keeps costs low if you print twenty. The answer key prints on its own page so the host can keep it in her bag.

FAQ

What age is this bridal shower game for?

It is made for adults and teens, but the vocabulary is easy enough for anyone who reads comfortably.

Can I add inside jokes?

Yes. Edit the word list above the sheet, keep each entry at three letters or more, and the sheet and answer key will update.

Should the bride play?

Many hosts have her sit out and referee, or play with a handicap, such as half the time. It is entirely up to the group.
