Why word scrambles work
A scramble asks solvers to hold a few letters in mind and try new orders, which is a quiet kind of spelling practice. It is also a useful warm-up before writing, since students have to look at how a word is built rather than how it sounds.
Every sheet has a writing line for each word, so the answer goes straight under the tiles. The answer key is a separate page. For a shower or party, a table can work on a single sheet together and compare answers.
Hints are optional. Turn on first letters for young children, add a word bank for beginners, or turn both off and see how many an adult can solve in five minutes.
Choosing and customizing
The holiday sets, for Christmas, Halloween and Thanksgiving, are the ones most people reach for in the fall and winter, and the baby shower and bridal shower scrambles are made for party tables.
Every sheet is shuffled by a seed, so a link to a puzzle always shows the same letters. If you print ten versions, each has its own mixing, which is helpful for a classroom where neighbors might peek.
If your topic is not here, open the word scramble maker and paste any list. It avoids leaving a word in its original order, so there is always something to solve.
